Apply: North East B-Girl Exchange!
We’re looking for one emerging B-Girl to take part in an exciting international cultural exchange programme connecting Hip Hop artists from the North East of England and North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
This is a unique opportunity to represent the North East, develop your practice alongside established artists, build international connections and be part of shaping future opportunities for Hip Hop culture in the region.
An International Hip Hop Exchange
This programme brings together Breaking artists from the North East of England and Krump artists from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The exchange has been developed to create meaningful opportunities for artistic growth, international collaboration and cultural dialogue outside of traditional battle environments. Rather than focusing solely on competition, the programme creates space for artists to share knowledge, explore creative ideas, learn from one another and build lasting international relationships.
The selected B-Girl will join a cohort of North East artists as part of this pilot international exchange programme, representing the region alongside established practitioners and helping to build new connections between Hip Hop communities in the UK and Germany.
The Exchange
Phase One: Germany
The North East artists will travel to North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, where they will spend time connecting with local artists through workshops, creative labs, cultural exchange activities, discussions, performances and shared learning experiences.
This phase is designed to encourage artistic exploration, skills development and relationship building across different styles, cultures and creative practices.
Phase Two: North East England
The exchange continues when the German artists travel to the North East for a return visit.
During this phase, artists will reconnect through workshops, discussions, performances and community engagement activities, while showcasing the strength, creativity and culture of the North East Hip Hop scene.
Together, both phases aim to create lasting relationships, shared learning opportunities and potential future collaborations beyond the life of the project.
Why a B-Girl?
The North East has a strong Breaking community, but fewer opportunities currently exist for emerging B-Girls.
